Love it or Leave it Maxi Dress

The Ageless Style Link-Up – The first Tuesday of every month ten over 40 bloggers present a different style theme and show a myriad of ways to wear it, all the while proving you can still be fashionable and on trend over 40 and beyond. This month I’m styling a maxi dress.

So maybe this was not exactly what Jodie had in mind when she chose this months Ageless Style theme but the more I thought about a piece in my closet I’ve had for years but rarely wear I continued to come back to this maxi dress. I decided it was time to pull it out and either find a way to love it or let go.

I picked up this maxi dress at a local boutique for a fundraiser dinner we were attending. By my best guess I’m thinking this dress is about 10 years old and it has been worn probably 5-6 times but I just cannot seem to part with it. I’ve paired with a black blazer for another dinner, with wedges and a denim jacket or vest for a more casual day at the office and even with a long cardigan. Something about it just never felt right.

A few weeks back I saw another blogger use this little trick of tying a knot midway up the dress to give it a little different look. Y’all, it totally transformed this dress! The bottom has always been so flowy and too long to wear with anything but a higher heel. With this look I could also get away with flat sandals. Plus I’m loving the more fitted look which makes it just a little more flirty.

I’m loving how adding a denim jacket and pairing with another fun pattern like this leopard clutch can keep this looking fresh even so many years later. Although Carly Jo told me it wasn’t very 2018, I think I’m going to have to argue with her on this one and keep this maxi around a little longer. It is so easy to dress up or down and it’s always nice to have something easy to pull out at a moments notice for an event. I think it’s a little boho and the pattern just makes me happy!
