March Book Review

It is hard to believe it is the last week of March! I always feel like January and February creep by and then the spring moves so quickly! Typically this time of year I’m able to log more reading due to lots of travelign for baseball games and such and I logged 5 books for March. For me, this is a big deal so I’m sharing with you my March Book Review.

Amazon: Laura Tremaine says it’s time for something better. Openness and vulnerability are the foundation for human growth and healthy relationships, and it all starts when we share our stuff, the nitty-gritty daily details about ourselves with others. Laura has led the way in her personal life with her popular blog and podcast, and now with lighthearted self-awareness, a sensitivity to the important things in life, and compelling storytelling, Laura gives you the tools to build and deepen the conversations happening in your life.

My thoughts: As someone who truly believes the power in being vulnerable, I loved this book. Where I struggle sometimes is knowing when to share and who to actually share with. Just dumping all my stuff randomly is not exaclty the best. By sharing 10 Questions and her answers told through stories throughout her life, Laura gives a little guide and framework. Being vulnerable is hard but there is so much growth available when we share with one another. I definitely think this would be a great book club book for a trustworthy group of friends.

Amazon: It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. When Eliza Hunt created The Hudson Valley Ladies’ Bulletin Board fifteen years ago she was happily entrenched in her picture-perfect suburban life with her husband and twin preschoolers. Now, with an empty nest and a crippling case of agoraphobia, the once-fun hobby has become her lifeline. So when a rival parenting forum threatens the site’s existence, she doesn’t think twice before fabricating a salacious rumor to spark things up a bit.  Funny, romantic, raw, and hopeful, this is a story about being a woman and of the healing power of sisterhood.

My thoughts: If you loved Big Little Lies then I think Eliza Starts a Rumor would entertain you. I was rooting for all the characters and the story has enough twist and turns and one big whopper secret in the end I wasn’t expecting. Loved this read!

Amazon: After another all-night bender, one more failed stint at rehab, and a parole violation, self-destructive actress Chase London has to deal with her demons. She’s been written off as a Hollywood casualty by almost everyone, including her own mother. Life coach Olivia Han is devoted to “adulting” boot camp therapy. It’s not just her professional specialty, though—it’s also one way to avoid focusing on building a life of her own. To escape the pressures of Tinseltown, the two women head to Olivia’s cabin in the wilds of Northern California. For two women doing damage control, this is a time for second chances—in life, in finding love, in forgiving family, and in an emerging friendship that might be exactly what each of them needs to heal.

My thoughts: Adulting was an Amazon first reads pick for April and I was not disappointed in the free download. I will say if you have any triggers with abuse, physical, pscychological or chemical, this might not be the book to pick up. It had a nice story line and some secrets woven in but an overal happy ending which I love!

Amazon: The charming vacation house on the coast of Maine was meant to be a healing retreat for Danica Lindsay and her husband, Blake–a place where they could mend the wounds their strained marriage and rekindle their love. Instead, Danica finds herself mostly there alone while Blake stays back in Boston, consumed by his career and rapidly rising political star. Were it not for the companionship of her new neighbor, Michael Buchanan, Danica would be overcome by loneliness and despair. But a friendship that is warm and uplifting is slowly transforming into something less innocent. For the first time in Danica’s life, a chance for true happiness may be in her reach. But how can she grab onto it when she remains another man’s wife, bound by her vows to a marriage plagued by doubt and pain . . . and by secrets so shocking an entire nation will take notice?

My thoughts: This book might be a little boring for some reades but it was an easy read and had a couple of surprising turns. A good love story without too much intensity is sometimes just what I need and Within Reach filled that role for me this month.

Earlier this month I shared It’s Never too Late which I was gifted in exchange for a review. You can read more about the book here but if you love Kathie Lee then I would say it’s a read you would enjoy. The most fun was seeing my photo shared on Kathie Lee’s instagram!!

I always have several fiction books qued up on my kindle paperwhite ready to go and began readiing How to Walk Away last night. Typically I will also have a non-fiction read in hard copy and I grabbed Angie Smith’s new book Woven this last week. If you are looking for Easter basket ideas for adult daughters especially I would recommend this one.

What are you reading lately?
