It’s Never Too Late – Style Six

· ·

In Texas, it’s never too late to add a sweater to your cart as we head into spring. We still have some cool nights ahead and after really using my closet in February, I decided to add a couple sweaters in more neutral colors. We have still had some cooler mornings and evenings and my office is alwasy cold so it has been worth grabbing on sale!

What I'm Wearing #fashion

This particular look was created with a worn once dress that had been hanging around way too long in my closet. I wore it to a wedding last fall and loved it but the plunging neckline didn’t exactly lend itself to wear many other places. I love trying sweaters or tees over a dress to create a new look but had not really considered it for this dress until I grabbed this lightweight turtle neck. How excited I was to have a new way to wear it!

Just like a new addition can refresh and old piece in our closet, sometimes choosing something new for ourselves can refresh our soul. I was gifted a copy of It’s Never Too Late by Kathie Lee Gifford and finished it earlier this week and wanted to share it with you today. While I was gifted this copy, all opinions are my own.

It’s Never Too Late

While many of you certainly know her as a daytime talk show host, I was surprised to find out she writes stories and song lyrics too. It was inspiring to me to see her walk away from jobs she loved to pursue something new for no other reason than to continue to grow. As she put it she is “refiring not retiring”.

As I settle into this midlife season, I’m feeling a pull towards a new purpose in life. Fear has always set me back and I’ve definitely been one to play it safe when it comes to my professional career. Kathie Lee writes in her book “I realized the importance of knowing not only where you are but also where you’ve been and what got you there. That perspective can help you figure out where you want to go next.”

We can gain so much from looking back but it’s not healthy if we stay stuck there. Always looking for ways to expand our minds and expand the people we bring into our lives can go far to helping us create a life that feels more purposeful. Another thing Kathie Lee wrote was “it’s never too late to tell the truth even if it’s only too yourself.” I thought that was really wise becuase I know for sure I’ve not always been honest with myself.

Learning to surround ourselves with the right people in the right seasons is also so critical to healthy growth. Kathie Lee has had so many people along the way who have impacted her life and shaped her path. She also knew when to walk away from the ones who were not healthy and forgive those who hurt her. She writes “a real friend makes you feel better about yourself. Friends help you cope when you think you’re done and offer hope that it can get better. They love you as you are but won’t let you stay that way.” I really love that! I want those kind of friends and I hope I can be one too.

The book is laid out in short chapters with many stories woven in from throughout her life. She shares the joys but also the hard and vulnerable moments. If you have been a fan of Kathie Lee, I think you will like this quick and easy read. As someone who at times felt like she was a little much to handle, I was curious if I would fine it enjoyable and I did. God made her to be an entertainer and she embraced that role. Who am I to take that away just because sometimes I’m a little jealous of those who can entertain so easily?
