Five Favorites – Takeaways

Good morning! So excited to wake up to a Friday. We wrapped up summer and headed back for our first full week of normal school routines. Everyone (but mainly Carly Jo) is a little snippy and ready for some rest. I spent all day Wednesday thinking it was Thursday so needless to say I was rather disappointed with my week being one extra day long.

Nothing earthshattering around here to share but I did have a few litle nuggets to takeaway this week and thought I’d share with you!

Tips for Cutting Corn off the Cob

Yesterday a Kroger magazine arrived and since I’ve been attempting to use coupons again for a little savings, I perused the meals and tips. If you like cutting corn off the cob (hello teenagers with braces!) this is a really handy way to do it with a little less mess.

The past few months I’ve been struggling with making it to the gym and feeling very unfocused and unsettled. This week I decided to make one big change and set my alarm for 4:45 each morning. I made it to the gym Monday-Thursday for a workout, was less rushed heading out for the day and honestly just felt more focused all day long. I need physical activity but it is often the first thing to be dropped when our days get hectic. Knowing it was checked off allowed me to focus on the rest of my day.

Going to bed early has been a win for all of us and just makes sense. Keith heads to bed early because he always rises at 4am. Pulling our schedule closer together means I am more likely to do things like wash my face before bed and enjoy a little reading before falling asleep becuase I’m not so worried about waking him. It’s a win all around!

Rachel Cruze Podcast

Once upon a time I racked up $36K in credit card debt. It was the most awful feeling ever to know every single month I was paying what I could but seeing the balance continue to rise. Sadly my daddy passed away alot too soon but he left behind a little inheritance which allowed me to be lifted straight out of credit card debt and we have never gone back.

However, sometimes I struggle with the balance and the idea of just because we can afford it does it really mean we should do it. We work hard, have a nest egg, why shouldn’t we have nice things right? This past week I had some time on the road and listened to a few episodes of The Rachel Cruz (she’s Dave Ramseys daughter BTW) podcast. The two takeaways I grabbed from Rachel were it’s okay to have nice stuff just don’t let your nice stuff have you and a budget doesn’t tell you not to spend your money it tells you how to spend your money.

Being the mom to adults can be quite the adventure. The balance to love them without judgement but also worry your ass off about whether they are okay is so real. This week as I had dinner with Jordan, I decided to also have diarhea of the mouth and unload the crazy reel in my mind that had been running rampant over a few assumptions I had been making. She reminded me if I wanted to know something I should just call and ask! Now there’s a concept right? Maybe I should review my own tips building relationships with adult children and freshen up my parenting!

So thanks for the reminder, Jordan, as it works in all our relationships! If you want to know something go straight to the source and ask. This doesn’t always mean you will hear what you want to hear but it does mean you will then know the true story!

So there you have it, my favorite takeaways for the week! I don’t know about you but it makes me feel good when I know I’m not just growing older every day but still learning and growing and trying to be a better me each day.

While you’re out enjoying your weekend, I hope you look for little pieces of wisdom or inspiration you can soak up and takeaway with you!

P.S. there’s a little $500 TJ Maxx/Homegoods giveaway going on over on Instagram just in time for some fall decorating!

Also on the blog this week a little Outfit Pinspiration in case you missed it!
