The Queen’s Chronicles – Dripping Springs
Keith & I were able to sneak away for the weekend to a little casita in the Dripping Springs. Our mission, do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted! I’m happy to report it was a successful mission and we are ready to start the new year!
So here’s a look at our weekend away and a few pictures of our best New Years Eve date ever! Miss Haisley came over to hang out while her mom and dad went out to dinner and she was looking so darn cute in her pjs, boots and hat!
She was even happy to let Papa K (we still have no clue what to call him) hold her which made his day! Her favorite thing is slapping her little hand down on the bar and she was super proud of all the noise she was making.
Carly and her girlfriends headed out for an early dinner and then we were thrilled to host them at our house for games and a midnight toast with sparkling grape juice before they all crashed. They are a fun, if but loud, group!
Keith & I outlasted them all as we stayed up until 2:30 playing Monopoly (the cheaters addition) with Taylor and Riley! It’s been a really, really long time since I’ve stayed up that late.
Keith made homemade waffles and bacon for the girls and then finally around lunctime we hit the road for our weekend away! It’s been a hot minute since we escaped and it was the perfect way to start the new year!
We were initally going to head to Fredericksburg but I didn’t reserve a house quick enough. When I saw a high school friend post about their weekend away at this little hill country casita on Air bnb, I decided to take a chance. It was perfect! Tucked away on about 10 acres just down from the owners beautiful home, it was a secure and quiet little one bedrom with everything we needed.
Our first stop was food! We were thrilled to find 12 Fox Beer Co. open as our first two stops were closed for New Years Day. They had Big Franks taco truck serving and a great little atmosphere full of outdoor space and firepits scattered around the property. The tacos were amazing!
Love this guy so much but I especially love him on vacation!
We ate like it was our job on this getaway! It was ridiculous really but we were all in! These cinammon rolls at Rolling in Thyme and Dough were amazing.
In an effort to create balance, I also had some food that was actually good for me! Tip for Rolling in Thyme & Dough, their kitchen is super tiny so if ordering “real food” vs just the pastries you can expect a bit of a wait. We were not in any hurry and this is fully disclosed on their menu but if you want to try them and do not have a ton of time I would suggest ordering ahead and picking up to go and then grabbing an outdoor table.
By the time I decided on Dripping Springs, the day passes for both Hamilton Pool and Pedernales State Park were sold out so I was really bummed. Thankfully Keith is super familiar with this area since he’s worked all around the hill country for 20 years. We headed right in to Reimers Ranch state park for some beautiful views and a little hike.
The weather couldnot have been more perfect! It was such a beautiful day to be out in the sunshine and fresh air. We spent about and hour and half in the park and hiked about 2 1/2 miles. The terrain is easy but there is a little bit of climbing.
I loved finding all these stacked rocks! We skipped rocks and checked all the possibilities for some fishing of course.
It’s just always so interesting to see the different terrain carved and cut by the years of a river rising and falling. I actually have some videos which are a little more reflective in a highlight reel on Instagram.
We were hungry but not starving although based on our choice you might not know it! The Route 12 Filling Station has an amazing appetizer menu and we settled on the ahi tuna and shrimp & crawfish fondue. Y’all, I can’t with how delicious this was!! Our intention was to head to another restaurant at Treaty Oak Distillery for dinner but unfortunately it was closed so back to Route 12 we went!
We sat on the couch the rest of the evening watching football and may have polished off some ice cream! Boy is this week going to be all about getting our eating back on track!!
If you are looking for a getaway we definitely recommend this little hill country casita. Keith & I had some crazy dreams of having a little place like this to rent out one day!
Last stop was The Switch in Dripping Springs for brunch that did not disappoint. I had the brisket eggs benedict which is served on a homemade biscuit instead of an english muffin and Keith had the brisket hash.
It was quickly back to real life when we arrived back home but this weekend away to Dripping Springs gave us so much time to focus on nothing but each other and I know it will take us far into the coming weeks. Even if you don’t go far, getting away alone with your signifcant other is just such an incredible investment in your relationship. I’m already excited about seeing him again tonight!
