Queen Bees {Linkup #3}

·
Welcome to the 3rd installment of the Queen Bees Linkup which I’m co-hosting with my friend Katy.  Do you have a woman in your life who inspires you?  Here’s your chance to give her a shout out and show her some love.  You can choose a fellow blogger who inspires you or someone who doesn’t even know you have a blog!  Whether she inspires you with her brain, her fashion, or the way she has handled her personal journey we want to hear about her!  The link up will run all month so feel free to stop back by and link up anytime in September.  Have an old post you have written…link that too!  We hope you will join the journey.
Today I would like to introduce you to Laura Horton of the Horton Family Blog.  I “met” Laura fairly early on in my blog life and we quickly began exchanging emails and realizing how much we both had in common with our “real” jobs.  Seems our similarity grew over time and she has definitely been someone who has supported me and offered support over the past year.
 Here she is with her main squeeze.  Isn’t she adorable?  Laura is a devoted wife, loving mom, supportive friend and a sister in Christ.
Recently she had a little accident and while she could have quickly derailed and spent the summer feeling sorry for herself I was so inspired with how she turned her fears and anxiety over to God and then used humor to get through the summer.  After naming her boot Felicia she proceeded to write a few posts from the boots point of view and it was just so hilarious.  I’m not sure just anyone can appreciate that accountants are not typically this funny but I definitely can!  Coffee talk with Felicia starts here!
And even on crutches she rocks those locks and continues to put together adorable outfits.
Laura definitely tells it like it is with no apology.  Being authentic is important to me and Laura shares the celebrations and the not so pretty some days.  She does not hesitate to share her feelings when she feels strongly but at the same time I feel she is compassionate and caring of others.
Being a momma is a tough job and Laura takes raising her daughter Alise very seriously.  Just like all of us she celebrates the joys of having a sweet girl to love on all the while worrying whether or not the choices she makes might be screwing her up!  I’ve seen her turn to her faith when she really didn’t know where else to turn and really that is the best thing a parent can ever do. Surprising your daughter with Taylor Swift concert tickets….well that is definitely a close second!  What a cool mom.
One area I really wish I was better at is being a great hostess.  Laura loves hosting friends at her house and always takes a little extra care to be sure they know how special they are. Then she serves up things like this bacon corn dip…holy yum!  She even hosted a brunch for several friends who were running in a local race.  See the care she took to make a special treat for them here.
I asked Laura if she could give a little insight on how she handles all the “in betweens” in her life and here is what she has to share.
“I try to remind myself to take a time out. Time to catch my breath and remind myself what really matters.  I pray and ask for God’s guidance because working full time outside the home, being a wife, mom, chauffer, chef, tutor, cheerleader, room mom, friend and an OCD Southern Diva is TOUGH! Usually from 8 o’clock to 9 o’clock is “my time” in the evenings and I enjoy taking a warm bath and reading a good book. But the great thing is that my husband understands and gets me and he certainly knows the “break out the vodka” look when he walks through the door in the evenings. “
Thank you so much Laura for being my September Queen Bee!
