The Queen’s Chronicles

The second week of school and so far we are still on track!  Thanks to Sunday meal planning for lunches and dinners and the effort I have made to actually get out of the bed the first time the alarm goes off!
Interestingly enough in the 22 years I have worked for Texas A&M Labor Day has never been an official holiday.  The kids school chose to labor as well this year but I decided to take a day of vacation.  Have you ever just taken a moment to enjoy the sound of a clean and quiet house?  I had grand plans for the day but sadly the only thing I crossed off my list was organizing this drawer….which I must say was a win!  I cannot even tell you how happy it makes me every day to open this drawer and see everything in a place all it’s own!

September 1st also marks another significant day for our family….opening day of dove season!  Which also means on a good day my man brings home dinner! Bacon wrapped dove…they don’t last long around here.
Tuesday started with a meeting and I was excited to have a first look at one of my very favorite buildings on our campus that recently underwent a major renovation.  Look at this beautiful floor!  Bonus points for those of you Ags that know what building this is!
And to honor September and what I think of as the start of fall,  I had to wear a military jacket with my black maxi!  I was definitely looking for something comfortable that would take me from my day job to volunteering at parent orientation at the elementary school.  A maxi always does the trick for me!
My sweet man leaves very early every day for work so I knew when he was calling me at 6am (it only took 3 tries before I finally answered) it was not a good sign.  He would love nothing more than to kill a nice big buck at dawn but this was not exactly the way he would script it.  So very thankful that he was not injured and that his car is repairable.

Thursday was suppose to be very productive as both bathrooms were suppose to receive a facelift with new granite but apparently there was a communication glitch and a piece of the granite was sold to another customer…we will try again next week.  I did at least have a contractor come by to provide a bid on painting cabinets and had the A/C serviced.  I don’t know if it’s just me but I cannot tell you how many people have come to my house to look at a job and then I never hear back from them with a bid.  I hope that means business is so good that they just don’t need anymore but dang…help a sister out..I need some things done around here!!
Thursday night it was divide and conquer as Keith took Dillon to pitching lessons and I attended parent orientation for CJ and we met back up at home for dinner.  Thankfully Crock Pot Chicken Tacos had been cooking all day in the crockpot!  We ate ours with corn tortillas and fresh avocados and they were so good.
Friday morning I was finally able to meet up with my running group for the first time all week.  We are so ready for the humidity to let up a little bit here in Texas and some cooler weather would be nice.  I did have a chance to wear my new socks and my oh my….they are awesome!  So soft and cushiony and my feet remained dry.  Plus they are fun colors!  I’m sure they are available at multiple vendors but I purchased mine from Athletica and I think they arrived in like 3 days with free shipping.
Friday night my friend Holly and I took our kidos to their first ever Midnight Yell practice.  I think I should have prepared mine a little more for what exactly to expect.  Once the yells actually started they “humped it” like good future Aggies.
And then, after months of anticipation, Saturday was upon us and Aggie Gameday had arrived and we would all see the first phase of the newly renovated Kyle Field unveiled.  We braved the heat for tailgating with friends and then headed to the game.  I have seen so many pictures both schematic drawings and real pictures of the renovation but nothing really prepared me for how cool it really would be. We were all so excited and the cheers were deafening as the show began and the team took the field….and then…they were all sent back to the locker room due to a lightning delay.  For real…it was quite the teaser.
I love watching football with this man….especially when we score alot so I was sad we ended up leaving and missing out on all the extra smooching!

I love this picture of the kids during the war hymn!

These kids have grown up coming to Aggie football games together and I feel pretty confident that 3 of the 4 of them will end up bleeding maroon.  The jury is still out on Dillon as I think part of him would like to follow his big bros footsteps but we shall see.  Time passes so fast and I know it will only be a blink and they will be leaving for college.

Sunday morning we hit the road early for Spring to kickoff the fall season for Dillon’s baseball team.  I am really enjoying seeing him develop and become his own little person out on the field.  He is so laid back and seeing his competitive spirit come alive has been exciting.  He is so much like Keith in personality and expressions but people often say he looks like me.  I don’t always see it but took this picture today and I do think I can claim him!
And Sunday also marks 5 weeks since our little Dutch Buddy came to live with us.  To say it has been an adjustment is an understatement but I’m beginning to think I might actually have a life again….someday.  I think he is happy with his new home and we sure do love the little stink.
Here’s looking to another smooth week ahead!
