May Goals

Spring Fever
It’s May!  I don’t know about you but in May things get a little out of sorts at our house.  Our schedules have been packed full of travel and kids activities since February, standardized testing is done, the school year is winding down and we are all becoming restless.  The days are long and the weather is beautiful here in Texas leaving us to want nothing more than lazy mornings and afternoons exploring outdoors before late suppers on the back porch.  We have spring fever at our house folks; plain and simple spring fever!
Before I highlight our May goals let’s take a look back at April.  I was evidently still holding spring fever at bay when I wrote this list.

Taxes

YES!  This got done for obvious reasons like rules and penalties if I did not.  I kissed that money goodbye and moved on.  It was exciting to see my sweet Jordan use her return as a downpayment on her first vehicle to buy all on her own.

Bless Others

We managed to take dinner to some friends (Mix and Match Mama Slow Cooker Stroganoff) and it was a winner.  I always stressed making dinner for others but I have recently started only preparing crockpot meals and it has made it so much easier as it cooks while I’m at work so I’m not rushing home to prepare a meal, deliver and then find a way to feed my own family.  My family loved this when I made it as well.  We also made cupcakes one night and delivered to two different families on our street to welcome them to the neighborhood.

Read a Book and Log a Daily Devotional

I read TWO books!  I would recommend both of these as it only took me a weekend each to finish.
Melanie {Big Mama Blog} definitely hit it out of the park with this one.  I remembered so many friends from my past, laughed, teared up and just felt so much love in my heart when I was finished.  I bought an extra 4 copies and delivered to a few friends and I hope they will read and continue to pass it along.
And then I picked up this book.  I read a little bit but just didn’t get “hooked” and then on a weekend away I dove in and literally could not put it down until I was finished!  I was rooting for the main character the whole book and willing her to turn things around and anticipating the ending I did not expect.
I also started the Made to Crave book and devotional by Lysa TerKeurst but have only made it through a few chapters.  If you have ever struggled with food this book is so good.  As always Lysa really makes you think while making you feel “normal”.

Date Night

This is where I totally started failing!  We were separated more weekends than not with kids in opposite directions and the week nights were just as busy.  The best we managed to do was find a few evenings of quiet time sitting together on the back porch.

Spring Cleaning

Nope…Notta…..Nothing got done!

Fitness Challenge

This was a winner and I’m feeling so much better.  Refocusing and turning my eating back to “real” food with more protein and and less carbs and sugar has made me feel so much better.  As a bonus my spring clothes are now fitting more comfortably!  You can read along with my Fit for a Queen series for some of my tips on healthy living.

Resume my Night Off

Hmm…well….I definitely had quite a few nights off this month and they were super fun nights out with my girls but totally not the productive kind I need.  Definitely need some balance here!
So my goal for May is to follow the K.I.S.S. rule (keep it simple stupid).  So many things running wild in my mind that I would like to get done around my house, fun things I would like to do with my kids, spreading some happy to others but the fact is May is going to be so full that removing a little stress and focusing on being blessed is really where I’m going to feel my best.

Teacher Appreciation

I will spread some joy to our teachers because they truly are the best!  As much as I would LOVE to embrace my inner Martha and create away, it is busy time at work and I know I need to focus elsewhere.  The past few years what has worked like a charm is having lunch delivered to the teachers one day during the week.  Jason’s Deli online ordering system has worked like a charm and everyone is able to order what they love and all I have to do is show up and deliver!

Read a Book & Complete Devotional

I hope to finish up the Made to Crave devotional and possibly start a new one as well as read a new book.  I have a long list of devotionals and books on my list and I know I have already downloaded Keep it Shut and Big Little Lies so those may be winners.

Send Personal Notes to a Few Special Moms

I really hope I check this off my list BIG!  It’s the month to celebrate moms and I would really love to  send a little encouragement to some special moms or those who have mentored and loved on my kids and other kids as if they were their own.

Enjoy Our Crazy!

This is my biggest goal…I want to just sit back and enjoy the crazy this month will bring.  We have baseball every single weekend this month including the Big 12 Tourney in Tulsa.  Dance recital, junior high awards, end of school celebrations…it all is so much fun and I’m hoping to let go what I need to let go in order to focus on the fun and soak it up.  At work we start our annual budget process this month and I love it because it gives me a chance to interact with everyone on campus more than the norm but it can also get a little crazy.  I’m hoping to feel grateful for that as well and continue to remind myself how lucky I am to have this job!
How is your May shaping up?  Are you feeling the restlessness of Spring Fever?
