Friday Favorites – Light

After a week full of thunderstorms and high humidity we are waking up to a cool front and a projected high of only 70 degrees today. Still rain in the forecast but hoping for some sunshine come Sunday!

I have been behind on my bible in a year reading plan and spent some time this week working to catch up. Last week I shared this photo on instagram as part of the #photoadayinMay2019 photo challenge for the prompt morning. When I start the day with peace and calm the rest of the day seems easier to tackle.

So I hope you don’t mind if I digress from a typical Friday favorites and share a little from my heart today!

The bible in a year plan has been interesting but not always easy. Hitting the hard books full of genealogy lately have been a struggle to get through. While I know there is importance in knowing this piece of the history, I find myself wanting to hurry up and move on to the more exciting parts of the story.

Isn’t that where we find ourselves sometimes? We rush the little every day moments which seem so irrelevant as we picture the more exciting stuff that brings the big joy. All the while forgetting where we came from and the struggles which brought us here.

So much of who I am today is because of where I came from. The struggles I encountered, the people (both positive and negative) who impacted me along the way and the choices I’ve made that shaped me into who I am today. They are all important pieces of my history.

A verse I read this week which really stood out (thanks to the Bible Recap) was Psalm 104:20 “You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl.”

While we so often think of God as light and darkness as sadness, sin, shame, God also made darkness and it does not escape Him. He is there with us and will walk with us through our darkness to bring us back to the light.

I hope today finds you embracing your history and feeling stronger because of the the little moments which help to make the bigger moments in life seem so much more special. I hope today finds you in the light!

But if today you are in a period of darkness, know that you are so loved. Whether seemingly small or large and looming, you can take your darkness to God. He will love your through it and bring you back to light.

Speaking of light, if you do not know Jessi she and her precious daughter Andi are full of sunshine! You can read more about Andi’s recent diagnosis here and I would love to see lots of pink on Monday in support of this sweet family!
