Let's Talk - Guys

I'm joining Andrea and Erika for this months Let's Talk linkup to talk about guys!

Guys....they are't girls!  Isn't that for sure.  They communicate differently, process differently, smell differently....they are different.
I have saved this picture for several years because it is just such a great example of how guys process differently.  We were getting lunches and such ready one morning and I asked Dillon to grab a package of oatmeal and put it in a bowl for me.  He did exactly what I asked him to do....literally!  I laugh every single time I think about it.

The  guys in my life can fill my heart with so much joy but on the same day drive me crazy out of my mind.  They are all just a little different and I have made so many mistakes in trying to figure out how best to communicate with them.  The biggest thing I have learned is to stop thinking they are going to read my mind because that is never going to happen.  I've also learned that letting them know exactly what is on my mind will not always deliver the result I was hoping for.

Here are the 3 guys that make my heart thump!

I cannot tell you how many times I've been in the middle of a conversation with this guy when he starts to respond with so much enthusiasm in his voice and I'm thinking he's really been listening and buying in to the "talk" and he totally starts telling me about some place he heard about that would be awesome to go fishing.  Really?  Really....this guy thinks about fishing most of the time I think.  He does love me enough to let me drag him around doing some of the things I love too but I've truly never seen him happier than when he his sharing his love for fishing.  I'm a little too serious about life sometimes and try to make things complicated and this guy truly is just so simple.  As much as he would like to keep up the tough guy act, this guy is snuggly and knows how to love unconditionally really, really well.

Riley Cole-Riles-RC-Bud
Oh Riley.....this just never know for sure what to expect from him.  He loves to be silly and make us laugh for sure and when I saw this picture of him walking behind the reporter I knew he had done it on purpose.  The first year at the CWS I saw him stop in the outfield and couldn't figure out what he was doing until I saw the selfie on twitter he had taken for some fans.  There are times I think he could be a walking SNL skit and political correctness is not something he knows much about.  He loves doing crazy crap like waking my littles up from a sound sleep and rushing them out of their beds telling them the house is on fire.  He's a good sport (most of the time) and doesn't mind my Christmas pranks likes these onesie pj's but he can turn on a dime if he feels threatened in any way. He does not like being wrong and will argue a point to the end of the earth so the two of us sometimes just have to part ways.  Thankfully he also moves on fairly quickly!

Dillon-Dill Pickle-DDill-Slim
The apple didn't fall far from the tree here and this kid would rather be hunting or fishing than anything else.  He is trying to figure out a way that he can get somewhere to fish during the day over the summer and that is still a few months away.  He is completely opposite of Riley and does not share a lot of info with me and truthfully it's driving me Ca-RAZY!  I think now that he knows this he's just taken it up a notch.  Thankfully he still knows how far a hug and a sweet smile will get him but oh my gosh if we don't figure out what to do about his smelly feet I may just have to start burning his socks.

What are  your secrets for living with the guys in your life?

The Queen's Chronicles

Lots of celebrations with friends this week and we are ending Sunday completely wiped out!
Monday was full of meetings and then straight from work to a board meeting for the food bank.  I could have chosen a dance class at the gym but stopped at the liquor store instead and opted for a fresh squeezed margarita to celebrate National Margarita Day.
I use to wait for someone to bring me flowers but these days I just stop and pick my own.  Tulips were 3 bunches for $12 at Kroger so I loaded up.  i just love them and I know they will be gone soon.
Have not seen this girl in forever and we enjoyed a yummy dinner at one of my favorite Italian restaurants and had so much fun catching up.
I received a call from this girl letting me know she left her lunch in my car.  I can't say I was complaining about having some extra time with her.
Friday night we celebrated Katy's birthday with dinner and lots of laughs.
Eating low carb isn't that tough all the time but I really do still love cereal so I bought a box of my fave Kashi Crunch earlier in the week and knew I was treating myself Saturday morning.  So worth it!
So I've seen mixed reviews and didn't really have any expectations going in but y'all...I have to tell you after 3 episodes I am totally hooked and loving Fuller House!  Was it cheesy at times....yep.  Is John Stamos still hot....yep.  Oddly enough, Danny Tanner totally reminded me of my was freaky.  I really think I'll finish all 10 episodes this week.  There are a few off color jokes but I did let Carly watch with me and she thought it was funny too.
Saturday morning the Creek View Show Choir performed at a local charity event.  They were so cute!
 Friends are where it's at!
Then we headed to Wharton (my hometown) to celebrate a wedding!
It was a traditional small town wedding with a great dinner and dance reception.  Carly had a blast with her cousin Morgan.
This little guy was the ring bearer and he nailed it!  I have never seen such  big grin all the way down the aisle and then he stood so nicely the entire service.   He's got some dance moves too!
Lots and lots of dancing all night long!
 And some photo booth fun!
Hank has been my brothers best friend for as long as I can remember and I really never thought I would see him finally settle down.  Guess it just took the right girl and we are just so thrilled for them!
Be still my heart!  Keith is a great dancer and I could not believe how well Carly picked up jitter bugging with her dad.
Maybe she will be better about letting him lead!!
We seriously had the best time!  I saw so many high school friends and we danced more than we have in a long time.  I had an all time high 19,319 steps on my Fitbit!   Such a fun night!
No rest for the weary and we were up and headed to Tomball for Dillon's baseball game bright and early Sunday morning.  I totally lost count of the number of times I heard this sister say "I'm bored" and "this game is boring".  The life of a little sis.
Everyone was happy after a quick (albeit costly) stop at Buc-ees for some snacks.
After an afternoon nap this girl and I took Dutch for a nature walk.  I really have been trying to soak up some extra time with my littles while I still can.  I know in a blink they will be done with school and out on their own.
Because seriously y'all.....this popped up on my Timehop app this week and I remember this day like it was yesterday.  I had a big presentation at work and she woke up with a fever.  I was frustrated and keyed up but after her meds kicked in she was all smiles and just wanted to love on me.  Glad I stopped and let her because this cuteness!
Then my supermom powers came into play as I snagged this Rocky Road ice cream while at the grocery store.  It's been almost a year since we have had it and I totally had to make an exception and dive right in.

I just glanced at my calendar for the week and it looks like I'm going to busy at home and at work. It is Staff Appreciation week though and there are lots of fun activities planned on campus which should be fun.  Wishing you all a smashing week!

Friday Favorites

So February is always a short month but does anyone else feel like this February has passed in a flash? It is hard for me to believe we are staring March 1st in the face.  I have begun pulling out spring touches in my house here and there and I love to include a little St Patricks Day fun.  Here are a few things I've found recently that could quickly be March favorites!

Doesn't this Oreo & M&M bark look yummy?  I have not made too many of these treats in the past but I think this one might be worth a try.  Carly Jo might just be able to help with this one too.
Stephanie @ Wife Mommy Me

How fun are these nails?  I'm now on the hunt for a perfect green polish!

I totally sucked at Valentines Day this year but I will have the day off for St. Patricks Day.  Maybe I will find a way to pull this together for a little fun.  The Dating Divas always seem to have every event covered.

Rainbows are always fun this time of year and my friend Holly shared some of her rainbow favorites last week.  I ran across this and thought it would make such a fun little surprise for teachers or friends.

If you missed reading the blog this week you can catch up on what's been happening around here in the What's Up Wednesday post which might have just included my favorite lasagna recipe
I also shared 16 dates I would love to take with Keith n 2016!
And I celebrated National Margarita Day on Monday with a little fresh squeezed margarita of my own.
Finally I shared a cozy winter outfit as we wrap up the end of winter with One Look 3 Ways

I'm super excited about celebrating with a GNO for my friend Katy's birthday tonight and then we head to the big city tomorrow for a little hometown wedding fun.  Wishing you all a super weekend.

One Look 3 Ways

Winter Style
As February is winding down and the temperatures are beginning to warm up, I thought I would take a last look at one of the cozy outfits I wore to work this month.
Winter Style
I consider myself lucky to work in an office with a more relaxed view of business casual most days.  These mustard skinnies provided the base for this outfit and pairing with navy is always a favorite. The J. Crew Factory gingham is lightweight enough to wear layered during the winter but hangs around all year long even in the Texas heat.
Winter Style
This blanket scarf quickly became my favorite this winter.  I just love the colors!
Winter Style
Who says plaid on plaid can't work?  I love the gingham peeking out with the bolder plaid.
Winter Style
I love this blazer (similar here)but I'm not sure why I've never thought to layer over a sweater.  Surprisingly there was plenty of room and I did not feel bulky in the least.
Winter Style
This was the perfect outfit to bring a little sunshine to a blustery day!

I'm excited about spring but this scarf may just be the thing I miss the most about winter!

What's Up Wednesday {February 2016}

Today I'm linking up with ShayMel & Sheaffer for this months What's Up Wednesday!  The questions are in green so check it out and join the fun.

I threw this Crock Pot Pork Tenderloin in the crock pot Tuesday morning sans honey and it was delicious.
Thursday Shay's Baked Spinach Pesto Tacos are on the menu and they are the bomb.  My family loves them.  It has been awhile since I've thrown this one together.  Bonus when there are leftovers it also tastes so good with eggs the next day.
I think I'm needing a little carb splurge so my favorite Lasagna is on the list for Friday night dinner.  Hoping maybe my daughter and her boyfriend will come over so it will be wiped out in one night.
Last February we took a quick trip to Arizona to watch TCU baseball and took the opportunity to drive to see the Grand Canyon.  No pictures can really capture the beauty.  These pictures have been popping up all week on my time hop and reminding me how much fun we had.
Have you seen the new line of DV items at Target?!!  So much cuteness.  I have not had a chance to go try any of these shoes on or check out the bags but I'm loving what I see and right now they do have $10 off $50 at least online and I assume the same in the store.
Basketball ended but we jumped right into 7 on 7 football and spring baseball.  Carly Jo has been to slumber parties the past two weekends in a row.   This time of year the first thing that seems to go by the wayside is date night so I put together a list of 16 dates I'd like to take this year.
Our yard has been ignored for far too long and needs some love.  I know the finished product will make me so happy but I'm somewhat dreading all the leaves we will need to bag before we can even get started!

I shared some room inspiration I've been pinning last week for both Carly and Dillon's rooms. I really want to give their spaces lots of thought and make it truly something they love.  I think we have the paint colors narrowed down and I'm trying to decide on furniture...some new, some old....and repainting what we have.
Spring training for Riley started this week and I just can't wait to hear all about it and see where the year takes him!  He has worked so hard in the off season and I'm so proud of him.
I'm not even going to lie...all you people knocking out multiple books a month and I can barely make it through one every three months.  I finally finished Daring Greatly and have started this book.  Hoping it goes faster because my reading list just keeps getting longer and longer.
I'm so on the Bieber band wagon!  I love this song!
I've been wearing lots of items from my closet!
My favorite field jacket (similar one here) over a floral top to start thinking about spring!  Trading out scarves for a fun necklace as the temperatures start rising. My crossbody is sold out but you can find a similar option here or here which are also priced well.  I am restraining myself from purchasing this Sole Society bag.
I have worn this sweater so many times and so many different ways.  This was definitely one of my best purchases this season.  Loved layering it with a chambray shirt recently and popping on my Kendra Scott necklace.
I've been obsessed with vertical striped tops like this one or this one and low and behold I actually had one in my closet!  Who knew how cute it would be with my red jacket?
After Riley signed last year I started paying attention to orange and navy with hopes I will eventually have a chance to wear it!  Love how this Pleione top came together with a little spring color but still holding onto winter with my OTK boots.
This top..y'all it's just been hanging around for a long while and I can't even remember the last time I wore it.  Thing is I LOVED wearing it so hopefully I'll pull it out more often.  I was so glad when I saw these pearls on the J. Crew Factory site shown worn unclasped took my mind a minute to accept this could happen but I finally figured it out.  One necklace two ways!
I am still working on figuring out how to wear white jeans in the winter but I feel like I actually nailed it with this look and I was super proud!
We are headed to my hometown this weekend for a friends wedding and I'm excited about seeing some people I haven't seen in a really long time.  At least I'm pretty sure I'm excited about this!  haha
Florida!  I booked our trip and we are so excited about some time away.  Hopefully we will also have some time with Riley and see him throw a time or two.  Narrowing down our plans which will include fishing, beach time and possibly a tour of the Kennedy Space Center.  Carly & I are also plotting a marathon Disney in a day.
I think this list pretty much covered everything!
I really think being in church as a family is my favorite Easter tradition.  We have not done this often enough as a family over the years so when we are able to be together it always fills my heart.  Of course there will be egg dying and maybe an egg hunt along with a yummy lunch.  I typically make my fruit salad and last year we served brunch after early church and it was perfect! in the world could these kids have grown up so fast!!
What are you up to this Wednesday?

Linking up with these Wednesday parties as well and you can see all the weekly linkups here.
