Dog Days of Summer

The dog days of summer are upon us and I’m styling a look to beat the heat!Ā Ā I will be the first to admit I was not really sure about the scalloped shorts craze. Ā I loved them on others but was really worried they would highlight the heavier part of my leg. Ā I decided to grab a fun color from J. Crew Factory and give it a go!
A simple white t-shirt is often all you need to pull together a summer outfit. Nice and cool and a more forgiving cut, I love the Old Navy Relaxed Fit Tees. I snagged several for under $5 recently!
And who doesn’t love pineapples? Ā Isn’t this Bag adorable? Ā My friend Holly gifted it to me for Mother’s Day and it is from one of her faves Pura Vida! You can receive 20% off with the code HollyMcBerty96. Ā I won a FitBit from work recently but since I already had one I was able to use the credit towards a higher priced version so I opted for the FitBit Blaze. Ā So far I’m digging the fact I receive a sweet little vibration when I receive a text and I love the fact the band and the face can be swapped out.
Add a statement piece like the Kendra Scott Rayne necklace in a fun color and some leopard print shoes and no one will even notice when you become a hot sweaty mess!
Of course the only way to survive the Dog Days of Summer is to stay hydrated! Ā My choice would be to grab margarita or a cold beer but since I’m working on clean eating this month, I’ve been opting for Perrier Pink Grapefruit Sparkling Water. Ā HEB also has a store brand that is a dead ringer and cheaper most of the time. Ā If I really want to splurge I will pick up a couple of Bai Pink Grapefruit..so yummy!
Beat the dog days of summer with my prescription for a stylish summer outfit; colorful shorts, plain tee shirt, fun necklace and sandals and add a pop with a statement clutch! Ā Oh, and be sure to stay hydrated! So what is your favorite way to dress for the heat?

  1. Such an adorable outfit, Shelly! I love Old Navy tees, too. So basic and inexpensive…perfect summer staples. And you just reminded me of a cute pair of scalloped and pom pom hemmed shorts that I grabbed on clearance last summer and I have not yet worn because I can never figure out what top to wear. But I think I need to go simple and basic with just a tee. So thank you for that inspiration!

My go-to beat-the-heat formula, however, is loose fitting lightweight pants and a sleeveless top. But I go with shorts if it is not so sticky outside. I cannot stand my skin sticking to itself!

I'm glad you added the fun necklace & clutch—to me they give a little kick to the outfit!!
I think you did great with these shorts—I only have a couple pair, and haven't tried the scalloped edge ones yet!

  3. Good thing you picked up the scalloped shorts! They are adorable and you look great in them – perfect summer outfit. : ) Ana

  4. Great summer look! I love that pineapple bag! Would you believe Perrier is my favorite drink too? It's so hard to find in my area…only one store sells it, and it is pricey!
