Friday Favorites – Protein

·

Happy Friday! This week flew by for me after being away for a conference Sunday through Tuesday. Things are gearing up and February is going to be an incredibly busy month for both work and family. Staying committed to my own wellness during busy times is so important for not only my physical but also my mental health.

It’s no secret, as women age and estrogen levels drop, we need more protein in order to combat muscle loss and bone strength. One of my struggles is getting enough protein without eating a ton of fat in a day from meat. I’ve been looking for ways to sneak in the protein with other foods lately and thought I would share some of my favorites!

:ratio yogurt

A friend shared this yogurt with me and when I saw it came in a cocount flavor I was all about it. To bump it up even more and give me some healthy carbs, I’ve been starting my morning combining this yogurt in coconut or blueberry with my Better Oats steel cut instant oatmeal. I’ve never made overnight oats but feel like this is probably the same consistency. It is so filling and sticks with me all morning while giving me a whopping 30 grams of protein!

Killer Daves Bagels

I was skeptical about these but have found them to be a great option when I also need to have some carbs to complete my macros. Add some protein and veggies for a sandwich and they really hit the spot. Typically I’m only eating half at a time but they are a great option if you still love the idea of having bread with a meal.

If eating plain tuna grosses you out, you can always add some healthy fat with avocado or a little mayo. I don’t mind tuna by itself when it is packed in water with a little Everything but the Bagel seasoning. I love to mix this with a 1/4 avocado and a tomato for a healthy high protein snack.

So, I typically buy Chomps from Thrive Market when they are on sale because they are a little pricey, but they make such an easy snack. I also usually by the beef because the rest of the family likes them better but the turkey definitely have less fat if that is a concern.

Ritual

Lastly, sometimes I have to reach for the protein powder to add enough protein into my day and lately my favorite has been this Essential Protein powder from Ritual. The blend is specific for 50+ and it taste great to me. I mix it up with frozen fruit and spinach using my trusty Nutribullet and it’s always filling and delicious!

Of course I also add so many other faves to the mix like cottage cheese and eggs fairly regulary but these have been some recent favorites that are easy to use to create quick little meals for work I don’t have to think too hard about! I’d love to know if you have some favorites!

I’ve also been really working on my sleep and healing my body from the inside this last year. Supplements have become a big part of my daily routine and I hope to pull together what’s worked best in that arena soon too.

Now I’m off to go grab my sweet grand for the weekend and that’s just another reason staying on top of my health is so important to me! I want to be able to keep up with her and all my future grands as long as possible!

Have a super weekend friends!
