This week my favorites are all about hair! This is a touchy subject for me as my hair is perfect only in the absolute perfect weather conditions. Too dry and my hair will do nothing and too humid my hair becomes incredibly unruly. California weather is pretty much the perfect weather for my hair…..so since I live in Texas that’s kind of an issue.
Updating this post to join in the fun with Andrea & Erika for a Favorite Things Party!
I have always loved short and sassy hair styles (think Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama) but any shorter than shoulder length and I always feel it just makes me look older…..or maybe just my age? Regardless, when I look back at pictures of me with short hair I always think it was not a good look for me. I would love, love, love super long hair but my hair is extremely slow growing. It is currently the longest it has been in a really long time. Being a blonde, dirtier than in the past but still blonde, is what seems to work best for me even though I so dream of being a brunette. The blonde just seems to add texture to my fine hair. If I could pick my perfect style and color (and lips, and tan) it would be this.
Hair extensions? I have been considering adding some extensions in an attempt to rock the long hair just one time! Would love to hear from any of you gals out there who have tried extensions.
For now I’m stuck with my medium length hair and finding a way to style it that works for me. This product right here has definitely changed things up a bit and at least extended my days between washing. By using this I have actually been able to go 3 days between washes and if I time it right I can stretch that to 4 with a hat on the weekend. I’m sure there are many brands dry shampoo and so many that are cheaper on the market but at some point I found this one, it worked and I have just continued using. I have found that spraying this in my hair, waiting 5-10 minutes and then using the blow dryer and a round brush has really helped keep my hairstyle looking fresh.
And speaking of the blow dryer….I really had no idea a “good” blow dryer could make such a huge difference in my hair. My hair always looks so smooth and shiny when my stylist fixes it and I commented about it before Christmas and she told me a good dryer could make a difference. She was so right. This little baby has definitely made a difference in my hair and Carly Jo’s hair and I think it along with the dry shampoo has helped me stretch the times between washes.
My hair is super fine and living in Texas you just can’t walk around with fine, limp hair! I tried for years to tease my hair with a pick or a fine tooth comb but my world completely changed when I found this little baby. This brush seriously has been a game changer. I am able to get plenty of lift but also smooth the hair so it doesn’t look frizzy. For less than $5 that was a winner for me.
Okay, so let’s just go ahead and say I have a ways to go on tutorial pictures! It’s hard to tell from the after but I’m telling you ladies if I did not tease my hair it would be completely flat to my head.
I wish I was one of those people who loves to spend a lot of time on my hair and makeup but I am just not. I love the idea of having great makeup and hair but typically if it’ takes more than 30 minutes to get ready I’m a bored and frustrated mess.
I typically straighten my hair on the first day I wash it and freshen that up on day two. On day three I try to add waves in my hair using a 2″ barrel curling iron. I am still trying to get the hang of this. Somedays it is perfect and other days I’m like what the heck is going on here?? Regardless if the wave holds at all I feel like it’s much easier to fake it than with wearing my hair straight. Thankfully the day we took our family pictures it was one of those perfect weather days and everything was right in the world and my hair looked like this.
I’m sure if you are an avid blog reader you already know about the Wet Brush but this has definitely become a favorite for brushing out my hair and Carly’s hair after washing. When I was little my mom seriously bought brushes just like this from a hometown children’s clothing store I don’t know what the secret is but this brush definitely makes detangling much simpler.
This week I found a tutorial for a half up style and decided since my hair was on it’s last day I would try it out this morning. She is just so cute and has lots of other tutorials but this is the one I happened to run across.
I wish I had a picture but it was a really dreary crappy day here in Texas and I dressed like it was going to be 70 outside so the entire day all I could think about was how darn cold I was! My sweet Carly Jo was sitting in the bathroom visiting with me as I tried to recreate the tutorial and she says “Mom, you look like a college girl who is trying to dress up like a grown up”. That’s better than any picture I could have taken! I will qualify this by telling you she insisted it was a compliment. Oh how I love that crazy little girl.
