Being their mom isn’t always easy but it’s 100% worth it. I love them all so fiercely and sometimes too passive agressively 😂 but always with my whole heart. We didn’t get a pic yesterday but they gave me my favorite gift which is their time! Bonus…they brought dinner.

I realized I never shared this pic from our fall photo shoot and of course I had to go pull out some of the others over the years because time is a thief! We took a beach vacation 15 years ago when Jordan graduated high school and I hired a photographer and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done. Now here we are 15 years later and Carly is graduating high school.

I’ve always said my super power is making beautiful babies and I’m standing by that 💕💕

For as long as I can remember my mom loved butterflies. There was butterfly decor around our house and she had several butterfly inspired pieces of jewelry but I rarely thought about the significance.

While the transformation we typically focus on is the beautiful outcome for a butterfly, we don’t give much thought to the arduous task the caterpillar goes through before gaining its wings. We don’t recognize the beauty in the actual work that’s put into the transformation.

My mom and I have had a beautiful but sometimes contentious relationship typical of many mothers and daughters. Most of the strain always came from one of us pushing the other to be better, to do better, or to just grow individually apart from one another. That fierce independence is something I’m so proud my mom instilled in me but it also was such a challenge battling her own strong will the last few years.

As we take another turn in this journey, I feel like she’s exhausted from all the years of transforming. She’s outwardly looking so old but yet all I keep thinking about is the beauty on the inside. No matter the differences we had, I know she always only wanted what was best for me because she loved me so passionately. I know this, of course, because I am a mom with that same battle of loving my kids with such passion and walking the line between holding them close and letting them transform on their own.

Every chance I get I’m telling her what a good momma she’s been to me. There is no more strain in this last stage, only the undying love that still burns between us. I don’t know how long she will continue to go through this transformation here on earth but I know when the time comes, those wings will be beautiful and so well earned.

We seriously could not be more proud of our tiny little dancer!! She can be a little shy so we weren’t sure what to expect but this girl owned the stage! There were damp eyes all around because we were just so excited for her and she seriously just looked like she was having the very best time.

I still remember Carly Jo coming to me in 5th grad

I still remember Carly Jo coming to me in 5th grade and telling me she wanted to try out for the competitive dance team at her dance studio and her sole purpose was to become a strong enough dancer to make the high school drill team. Tryouts for a freshman spot were virtual during Covid and her heart was crushed when she didn’t make the team. She came back stronger the next year and I was so proud of her for setting her fears aside and giving it her all. She made the next 3 years count and we gathered last weekend to watch the final spring showcase.

The way these girls work all year long is so admirable. Early morning practice, late night bus rides, countless run throughs to clean their dances and they do it all while still smiling (mostly). I definitely shed a few tears watching this final show. When you see the joy on your child’s face doing something they love it’s always a little bittersweet to know a chapter is coming to a close.

The lessons she has learned from being part of this sisterhood will not be soon forgotten nor will the friendships. @carly_janac we won’t cry because it’s over but smile because it happened! It’s been a joy to watch!

Senior year is flying by and we crossed off anothe

Senior year is flying by and we crossed off another last this weekend ….last prom! We love this girl and these pictures that show off her personality and her darling friends. These last few weeks are going to go by at warp speed but we are trying to take it all in!

….but it wasn’t really an option! How was I going to support two kids on my own without a degree?!! I don’t even really think I gave myself the choice. When I think back now I’m not sure how I managed one in daycare and pregnant with another while I worked part time and went to school while also having my marriage fall apart but I just knew it was the only way we had a future. I graduated from college when Riley was 2 months old! When I think back now I don’t really see it as a big deal but I feel like it had to have been a really stressful and emotional time. It’s crazy how we forget sometimes the adversities we have faced once we are on the other side. I will forever be grateful for the people who believed in me and supported me during that walk because without them I’m not sure the outcome would have been as positive.

So if you are in a hard season right now, look for the people who are tossing you a life vest and don’t be too proud to accept it.
