Show & Tell Tuesday – Personal Style

·
It’s a another Show and Tell Tuesday with Andrea and today we are talking about our personal style!
So here’s the thing, I do not consider myself stylish at all.  I love clothes and I love getting dressed every day but putting outfits together has not always been easy to me.  What I have found after years and years…and well…years of doing it wrong is that you will always look best in clothes you feel your best wearing.  So what do I feel my best wearing?  I thought the best way to show you was to take a look at my Instagram selfies which really show the “real” portrayal of my day to day outfits.

I love the look of a great pair of jeans or black pants with a crisp white shirt but honestly sometimes I end up feeling like a waitress for some reason.  My style calls for a little color with a great accessory like this floral scarf and really stepping out of the box by adding the always neutral leopard shoe.

A great little striped dress is always perfect and mixing floral and stripes always seems to work.  Top this off with some layers for added interest in a fun color.

Dresses can be so easy and I love finding one in a fun pattern.  The trick is picking a pattern you can feel yourself in that also does not accentuate any flaws.  I think adding a great pair of shoes to pick up a color in the dress always helps to balance things out.  Flats are not typically my go to but in the past year I have been grabbing them more and more.

Layers….I really do love layers the older I get.  I use to think adding layers just made me look heavier but in fact they can definitely hide some flaws and really give an outfit some character.  I try to keep my jewelry fairly simple as well but longer necklaces have really been my jam the past few years.

Pattern mixing is kind of tricky at first but once I got rolling with this it became a quick fave.  Stripes and animal print is definitey another favorite and see how this necklace just gives the right amount of punch to this outfit.

Color…we all have our favorites and we know when we wear them and others comment they are “our” color.   Know your colors and buy solids that work for you.  Adding a simple accessory is all you need to bring a great color to life.  Leopard is apparently my fave to add!

Because really….I have NEVER worn this color that someone didn’t tell me it was perfect for me.  Again….a long necklace and some leopard shoes and bam…a perfect combo.

Here we are again with some simple basics all tied together with a seasonal scarf.
Maxis this time of year are the perfect style for me.  They work for the office, the weekend, a girls night or just a day around town.  Always flattering, always easy to pop a jacket over and always good to cover up legs that aren’t ready to show off!

Layers + stripes + leopard wedges + long necklace…..seems to defintiely be my style and I really do feel totally myself when I’m dressed like this!

I’m also all for wearing black anytime I want to feel a little slimmer but still keep it classy.  Black always makes me feel, well, hot.

A great pair of heels is really my jam.  I hated being tall when I was younger and now I can’t get tall enough!  Seriously, when I wear flats at work people look at me funny.

I struggle with button downs because I’m super short waisted and, well, my waist is probably not one of the areas I want to highlight.  When I discovered popover shirts I felt like a whole new world had been opened up for me.  The style of a button down but a fit that can be worn untucked without looking frumpy.  Yes…please!

Of course keeping it casual is always one of my favorites and this camo and buffalo check combo + chucks…I seriously think this is one of the best combos I’ve ever chosen.  This reminds me I threw that tank away last time I wore it due to a big fat hole…note to self order a new one!
Maxi love again.  I mean the combos for a maxi are endless.  Add a heel, wear flats, add a scarf, add a fun necklace, add a vest or a denim jacket……I have about 6 maxi’s in my closet and several are about 6 years old because they are just that versatile.
I have been so guilty of buying things just to try and be trendy and it is almost always a fail for me.  I do NOT have a “trendy” body and sticking to clothes that actually make me feel good about myself always look much better on me because I look confident wearing them.
So what defines your style?
