16 Sweet Date Ideas

In January I was desperate for something to post about and being the new year (2016 at that) I decided to post a 16 things (random at best) about me. Well here we are in February and I have really been trying to be more intentional about scheduling post and as I was thinking about the “month of love” I decided why not continue the Sweet 16!  If you do something more than once it becomes a tradition blog series right?  So here we go….16 dates I would love to take in 2016 with my love!
Fun Dates

Picnic

I’ve been dying for the weather to be just right for me to snag Keith as soon as he gets home from work and head off for a picnic date.  He is crazy for a meat and cheese tray and I know all I would have to add is a bottle of wine and we would have the perfect time sitting on a blanket, with no distractions and just enjoy some time alone.  Heck…we might not even talk!

Gun Range

Seriously my man loves guns more than I love Mexican food but I am a bit gun shy if you will.  I only want to shoot if the two of us are alone and more times than not either the kids or some of his buddies are along for the ride.  I think a date to the gun range would be so much fun!  Leave it to the Dating Divas to already have this one planned for me.  Not into “real” guns?  This date works with nerf guns too!

Dancing

When we were dating dancing was a weekly affair for us.  I so miss having this guy lead me around the dance floor.  We live in a college town with tons of bars and it would be so fun to head out early while the dance floor is still empty and cut a rug for a bit.  I’m hoping eventually dance lessons might also be on our date night list.

Drive-In Movie

I don’t know, maybe it’s just the idea of getting caught making out in the car that really makes me want to do this but I have always just wanted to head to a drive in move!  This may be a long stretch for my man but maybe, just maybe I can con him into it with a trip to bass pro shop first or something!  I did run across these 7 reasons a Drive-in Movie is still a cute date idea here.

Sunset Dinner at the Lake

We have a small lake here in town that often goes overlooked.  There is a great little restaurant overlooking the water and I would love to head out for an evening to have dinner and watch the sunset.  Is anything more romantic?

Restaurant Hopping

No rules, just right…..that is the Outback slogan but I would love a great night of restaurant hopping with no rules.  Dessert first?  Sure why not.  Choosing a restaurant is sometimes the hardest part of our date so why choose?  I say pick your favorite cocktail and head for a drink.  Like an appetizer somewhere else…go grab it.  Settle for dinner somewhere you both love and then share a dessert in a quiet corner somewhere to end the evening.   One year we did this on our anniversary even though it was just two locations and it was really fun.  I totally think this would make a fun date and we both are happy to have some of our faves!

Cooking class

One of our very favorite things to do together is cook.  How fun would it be to attend a cooking class and learn some new tips.  Often I have seen these hosted with other couples and that would be so much fun.

Outdoor concert

I love music and while it is probably not Keith’s idea of the perfect date they do typically have beer and we almost always can be sure to run into at least one of his high school running buddies.  I really want to make an effort to go to at least one outdoor concert this spring or summer.  Here we are in 2011….that means it’s been 5 years since we have done this and I think it’s time.  We had so much fun!

Baseball game

I love baseball and I love watching my boys play baseball but every once in awhile I would like to just go and be a spectator instead of a mom!  Sporting events make such great dates and especially baseball on a perfect spring day.  Hoping we can hold hands and eat peanuts at a game this spring.

Go Fishing

I love seeing my guy doing something he loves and he could seriously fish for hours.  I actually love fishing but suck at being patient if the fish aren’t biting.  Plus now that Dillon is into fishing there is rarely a time when he doesn’t want to go.  Heading for a fishing date alone and doing my best to stay in the moment would be a great day.

Eat Something New

Surely we are not the only couple who get into the same old rut eating at the same old restaurants over and over.  I would love to see us try something new for a date this year.  Maybe it’s Indian food or German food or maybe it’s just a fun new restaurant but just something new and different.

Date Night at Home

Sometimes the best day is the one with takeout and a movie at home in our pj’s.  We are gone so much and sometimes it would be nice to just be alone in our own house.  I love finding ways to spur conversation with Keith that will make us both laugh.  Thinking I might have to pick up a copy of these little quiz books Do You Know Your Husband? and Do You Know Your Wife? for some fun.  Next time the kids have a night out I think a night in will be just the perfect date.  Of course the Dating Divas also already have fun Questionnaires all ready here.

Couple date

I go for girls night out often but it seems few and far between that we have an adult only night out with another couple.  Dinner and a movie always seems to work to provide the fun conversation but then time to snuggle a little at the movies.  Guys are always more at ease heading to a chick flick when another guy is around too right?  Or what about a scavenger hunt around town?  We aren’t really great at playing games but maybe we should push this one a little and try a game night.

Act of Kindness/Volunteer together

I would love to head out on a mission to do some acts of kindness for a date night.  Maybe we volunteer at the concession stand or maybe we just have a little challenge to see who can find the most unique random act of kindness. Since food is our favorite of course we would end our date paying for someone else’s meal.

Mini Road Trip

So many fun places to visit in Texas and we are so central to many of those.  I would love to take a mini road trip one weekend and head off to somewhere else….anywhere else.  Maybe we stop and grab food to eat by the riverbank or maybe we eat at a restaurant we have never been to before with live music I don’t know.  Just somewhere new that we have never been like maybe the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner.

Time Capsule Date

How fun would it be to have a date where you both added things about your relationship to a time capsule.  Where you are now, memories of where you have been and all your hopes and dreams.  It would be fun to seal away and revisit in a year to see how things have changed.
