Summer Reading – Book Review

Even though I logged a few books in May, I failed to pull together a book review so I’m lumping May and June together into a Summer Reading book review for you! Almost all were wins for me with just one that was meh. Two were perfect summer reads in my opinion! So let’s get to it.

My thoughts: Liane Moriarty is one of my fave authors to read and I love her writing style as she jumps from character to character perspective. I always feel invested. This read was definitely no different and I really did love this book most of the way through. However, I truly felt like it could have ended way before it did. While there were a few things to tie up, it just seemed to drag on the last few chapters. Overall Apples Never Fall was a good read.

Typically I enjoy an easy read by Taylor Jenkins Reid, but this one just didn’t do it for me. I don’t know if I just wasn’t into it or if I felt more strongly about how one life played out over the other but Maybe in Another Life just wasn’t my favorite.

This book is steamy! But also brought me to tears a few times as I was so invested in wanting this relationship to turn out differently. I could not quit turning the pages of Ugly Love and if you typically enjoy Colleen Hoover books you will like this one!

Y’all, I have never wanted to plan a trip to Italy more than I did after reading this book! Maybe it’s because one of the influencers I follow was actually in the town this book is set in at the same time I was reading but I felt like I was there! If you have read In Five Years and liked the writing style, I think you will like One Italian Summer. It’s definitely a book about finding yourself and I reallly enjoyed it so much.

Wish You Were Here

This book begins at the start of the pandemic in NYC with a couple about to head off for a 2 week vacation. One is a resident at a hospital and decides he can’t leave but encourages his partner to go anyway and she does. She ends up stranded on a desserted island that has been closed due to the virus and she is forced to develop a relationship with a family for a place to stay as the resort she was suppose to stay in was closed. With little communication with the outside world she was forced to really take a hard look at her life and evaluate things. I was so not prepared for the twist in this book! Like I literally said “holy cow are you kidding me” out loud to myself when I turned the page and it happened! This was such a good read and I had zero problem turning the pages of Wish You Were Here.

Ahh… this is a great little summer read! I loved the characters and felt like I was with them at their summers on the lake. The book relives the six summers they spent at the lake devloping their relationship as teens and the one weekend they are brought together in the present by a funeral. I was team Sam and Percy immediately! Every Other Summer is a sweet summer read!

I’m currently finishing up a non-fiction read, Finding the Hero in Your Husband, can can’t wait to share my thoughts. It is definitely a great read if working on your marriage is somethinig you are passionate about. My book holds list is so long and I’m anxiously awaiting my next good read to become available for download.

What are you reading lately that I need to add to my list? You can find everything I’ve read in my Book Reviews tab under Everything in Between.
