Shopping My Closet + TBB Linkup

Happy Valentines Day friends!  Today is one of those days I’m going to feel like my mom card needs to be stripped because I did zero to show love to my kiddos.  I usually love this holiday but let it totally slip up on me.  Hopefully you all are showering your friends and family with love today!

A few weeks back I showed you the current sate of my closet which contains way too much. I’ve been working to wear items I have debated tossing for the past several weeks and thought I’d show them off and let you know if I’ve managed to purge a little.  You can also hop over to The Blended Blog where I’m showing of a few other winter layering looks.

This faux fur vest has been in my closet since 2011.  Am I the only one who can remember a piece of clothing based on a special memory?  I wore this vest with a purple turtle neck to Riley’s signing day in November 2011!  There have been years since when I’ve worn it sparingly but I’ve been trying to wear it more to see if I really want to keep it. Right now I’m leaning towards keeping it around because it is still in great shape and I still think it works but I’d love to know what  you think.  I did toss this sweater.  As much as I loved the softness, it was just way too big for me.  Full confession, it is still available and I followed directions this time and ordered a size down.  At least it meets the one in one out rule right?  Oh, and I’m always asked about this strappy bralette so I’ve linked on very similar.  Everything else is one year old or less and staying in my closet.

Another faux fur vest I have had for quite some time and, in fact, it has appeared here on the blog probably 4 different times.  I never wear this vest without receiving a comment either curious about what kind of fur it is (it’s FAKE) or people love it.  I’ve worn it several times this month and the verdict is, for now, it is staying.  So if you hate it don’t tell me!  As much as I absolutely adore these boots, I think it will be their last season.  The zipper pulls on both have broken off which makes them a pain to get on and if you’ll remember one of my rules for keeping is it must be in good condition.  I still love this dress and it is just over one so I believe it has staying power. White Skirt for Winter

This skirt is at least 5 years old I’m confident.  I grabbed at White House Black Market and every single time I wear it I love it.  I love layering with fun patterns and colors but also can create and easy black and white combo.  This sweater was one of my best Nordstrom Anniversary sale picks ever.  I love it but haven’t worn it as often this past year and it does have a teeny tiny hole where the tag was in the back.  I know I should toss but someone might have to physically come over and take it.  Ha!  I need a great pair of black heels and really, really wanted these Michael Kors to be the ones but every time I wear them I end up with blisters.  I think I’ve been trying them for two years so they should go right?  And my favorite striped bag?  It will be tossed as soon as I find another I love because it has been carried almost every day for a year and is showing major wear.  Winter Dress Up

Wait for it….this dress has been in my closet since 2009!!  I have used it for fun events like seeing the Rockettes perform to attending a dressy dinner but also can pair with a black jacket and wear to the office.  It still fits, I love the way it looks on me and it always receives compliments.  When I polled insta-stories the results were 91% keep and 9% toss so either it still works or my followers also have issues purging.  Ha!  What do you guys think?  These boots though, another anniversary sale purchase, prove investing a little is worth it.  They are on their 3rd season and still look brand new.  They are Uggs if you can believe that!  They are super comfortable and the quality is great.  I don’t expect them to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Light Layers

Another piece hanging around my closet is this cardigan.  I want to love it so bad that it has been hanging there for probably five years.  If you really want to know whether or not you love something, take a picture of yourself wearing it. Regardless of whether this cardigan is cute or not, it is not cute on me!  The color does absolutely nothing for me and I’m going to get the courage to pull it off the hangar to add into the to go pile.

Winter Style

Lastly, I’ve had this sweater for 3 years and last year didn’t wear it much but it has been worn 3 times this month!  It is lightweight enough to layer a cute plaid top under which I did this week but also works well on it’s own.  I’ve also worn these jeans several times after knocking the dust off of them!  They were a boutique steal several years back and they still fit great so they are staying too.

So far I have managed to fill two bags with clothes but they have not left my house.  I need to work on that before I start trying to pull things back out!  Do you have an issue letting go of pieces you once loved?  I definitely do!  And just for proof….you can see Carly Jo and I all dressed to see the Rockettes in 2009 below!
