Hi, my name is Shelly and I am an over packer! I have this fear of arriving somewhere and not having anything to wear that makes me feel comfortable or good about myself. Truth be told this probably comes from me waiting to the last minute to throw everything together. After missing my flight on my last trip and having a cancelled flight the trip before when I didn’t see my luggage for days, I decided it was time to try something new. We are headed to California this week so I turned to Pinterest for a little Pin-spiration!
I ran across Jill’s Good Life Blog on Pinterest with the board below outlining the perfect items for a California trip over spring break. We are traveling early March so close enough!
And one of my very favorite bloggers in the history of the world, Cassie at Hi Sugarplum posted this outlining how to pack in a carry on for 10 days! I’m only going for 4 nights so surely I can do this!
The weather is shaping up to be in the mid to high 70’s during the day and even touching 80 towards the end of our stay (yes, please!) but the temps will dip into the 50’s at night. I’m thinking lightweight tops, both jeans and shorts and a couple of jackets. Here is what I’ve planned so far.
I will probably lean towards my Converse the majority of the trip but wanted a couple of options with a little height. My favorite J. Crew Factory shorts and a couple of lightweight t-shirts should work together for some daytime fun outfits. I have packed my boyfriend jeans, a pair of white jeans and my skinny jegging type jeans. I’m fairly certain I will be in jeans for the first two games since they do not start until 6pm .
I love this Maxi dress and it will be perfect for strolling along the boardwalk at Venice beach or Santa Monica pier but would also work for a dinner outfit. I could pair with either jacket if needed. My 3 scarf choices will add a little color but would also work to give me some warmth if needed as the sun goes down. My trusty jewelry doesn’t change much but these key pieces will elevate any of the outfits I’ve chosen. I really got into wearing a hat last year so I’m going to take it along for our daytime outings and especially the game on Sunday.
And since I’m taking my hat I found this Pin by a Pair & a Spare and immediately thought GENIUS! If you travel with hats you must check this out!
I will also make sure to pack these Yummie Tumi undies. These don’t always work well with lower riding pants but with my shorts and especially my maxi dress they provide no panty lines and help to hold in the muffin top!

If I find my very favorite gold flip flops they will also make the trip but they are seriously MIA at the moment. I don’t know how I can live in Texas and have zero pair of flip flops in my closet even if it is March!
There will also be some TCU baseball gear (Go Frogs) as this is the primary reason we are traveling! Hoping I can fit all of this plus my toiletries into my carry on.
Do you have this mastered? What are some of your tried and true methods for making sure you are cute and comfortable while traveling?
