Making a House a Home

·
This weeks Friday Favorites are all about my home decor!
Three years ago I painted my living room a new neutral color and have been afraid ever since to put a nail in the wall unless I was absolutely positive it was what I wanted.  About a year ago we moved my grandmother from her home to an assisted living facility and I was lucky enough to stake claim to this picture that my uncle painted when he was young.  For as long as I can remember this picture hung in my grandparents home and this was painted of an actual house on the country road my grandparents lived on.  This picture always gave me a sense of home and my roots.  The frame it was in did not do it justice so it was Hobby Lobby to the rescue with this perfect new frame!
I knew I wanted this to be a centerpiece to a gallery wall and began looking for other pieces to complete the grouping.  Last Friday night I finally was brave enough to put a nail in the wall!!  I cannot tell you how many times I’ve stood back and taken in my new wall.  After three years of looking at nothing this has been so much more welcoming as I see this wall upon entering the house daily.
I then got busy finishing up my fall decorations.  I just love this time of year through the Christmas holidays as I always feel like my house is so much more welcoming.  Home decor does not come natural to me so it’s always a stretch but thank goodness for all the great ideas on Pinterest!  Here is a look at my mantel.  I typically decorate for fall and add a few Halloween touches here and there.  This year I found this great banner at World Market and I seriously could not be more excited at how it looks with the rest of the items I already had on hand.
I also really have enjoyed having a few owls around the last few years and have used them as well.
And I still have a few things to work on this weekend to complete my entry table but I’m not going to kid myself….it could look just like this by Thanksgiving when I’m ready to put Christmas decorations out.
What girl doesn’t love fresh flowers?  I was lucky enough to bring this beautiful arrangement home from a fundraising event on Monday.  Can you believe this was made by Kroger?  Yep, that’s right a beautiful arrangement compliments of Kroger floral design.
I also love all the Day of the Dead items at World Market and I picked up this skull and a super cute dishtowel on Wednesday.
If you need me you can find me sitting in my big chair enjoying my fall decor!
Saturday begins the end of our birthday marathon as my oldest son turns 21 on Saturday, I will be 45 on Sunday and my man will FINALLY turn 40 (yep I robbed that cradle) on Monday!  Looking forward to a fun weekend.
