Friday Favorites – Charcuterie Board

·

Happy Friday! Is there anything better on a Friday evening than to arrive home and not have to worry about dinner?  Last week I decided a simple, “snacky”, dinner and some wine would be the perfect way to start the weekend.  Today I’m sharing this little cheese and charcuterie board and my fave items to use that make it friendly for the adults and the kids.

So, truth be told, until about three weeks ago I had never heard the word charcuterie!  My more cultured friend Katy used the word when we were out enjoying a cheese tray and it sounds so much classier so I’m adopting it (even if I did have to look it up in wikipedia!).

Charcuterie Board - The Queen in Between

A great board for us will include cheese, meat and a little something salty and sweet.  It most certainly will all be finger food because a simple supper is NOT simple if there are lots of dishes right? I’m personally a stinky cheese lover but that is not really a winner for the youngsters or even Keith honestly so I also chose some more friendly choices.  Here’s what we put together!

Cheese – Gouda, brie and plain old cheddar was the perfect combo.  The brie works to satisfy my fancy cheese side and who doesn’t love cheddar right?

Meats – A selection of three different types of salami for my man and the kids and a little turkey breast for me.  Well, I may have indulged in the salami too and it was delish!

Fruits – I like to keep it super simple by grabbing a bag of grapes and using my kitchen scissors (these are seriously just my regular scissors but I do wash them first) and cut them into perfect size bunches to grab.  Strawberries were washed and tossed in a pretty bowl and I called it good.

Veggies – Cucumbers are not always my favorite but I love the little baby cucumbers and they added some fun color along with the grape tomatoes which I go through rapidly every week this time of year.

Dips – Humus and guacamole always win big at our house!  Carly could not quit talking about how yummy the cucumbers were dipped in this garlic humus.

Crackers/Chips – Have you tried rice chips?  I’m not really sure they are any better for you, especially if you eat the entire bag with guacamole, but I love them.  Here is a link to just show you what the bag looks like for the brand I buy but I’m only finding them sold online in bulk.  I also grabbed almond thins.  My family doesn’t particularly care for these but I do know they are better for me than regular crackers.  Truth be told, not pictures is the bag of Tostitos Keith brought out to the party!

Wine – You didn’t think I was eating meat and cheese without wine did you?  I haven’t been drinking much wine lately because I’m pretty sure I’m having a little allergy especially for the cheaper wines but this called for wine!  My fave cheap wine is Darkhorse Cabernet.

Extras – Other faves we might add to a simple patio snack like this; olives, pickles (anything pickled really), nuts, dried fruit

So there you go!  You have your shopping list all ready to stop by the store on your way home and create an easy cheese and charcuterie board for your simple Friday supper!

I’m almost sad this will not be happening at my house today!  The family is splitting up a bit this weekend as the kids stay with Keith and I head to Frisco for some Corpus Christi Hooks baseball. One of my college besties happens to live in Frisco so I’m excited for some girl time.  I also had a spray tan this week so I’m feeling like I’m 22!  Look out big D.  Ha!

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!  Be sure to stop by the Linkup Love tab in the navigation bar to see who I’m joining today!
