I still remember Carly Jo coming to me in 5th grad

I still remember Carly Jo coming to me in 5th grade and telling me she wanted to try out for the competitive dance team at her dance studio and her sole purpose was to become a strong enough dancer to make the high school drill team. Tryouts for a freshman spot were virtual during Covid and her heart was crushed when she didn’t make the team. She came back stronger the next year and I was so proud of her for setting her fears aside and giving it her all. She made the next 3 years count and we gathered last weekend to watch the final spring showcase.

The way these girls work all year long is so admirable. Early morning practice, late night bus rides, countless run throughs to clean their dances and they do it all while still smiling (mostly). I definitely shed a few tears watching this final show. When you see the joy on your child’s face doing something they love it’s always a little bittersweet to know a chapter is coming to a close.

The lessons she has learned from being part of this sisterhood will not be soon forgotten nor will the friendships. @carly_janac we won’t cry because it’s over but smile because it happened! It’s been a joy to watch!

Senior year is flying by and we crossed off anothe

Senior year is flying by and we crossed off another last this weekend ….last prom! We love this girl and these pictures that show off her personality and her darling friends. These last few weeks are going to go by at warp speed but we are trying to take it all in!

….but it wasn’t really an option! How was I going to support two kids on my own without a degree?!! I don’t even really think I gave myself the choice. When I think back now I’m not sure how I managed one in daycare and pregnant with another while I worked part time and went to school while also having my marriage fall apart but I just knew it was the only way we had a future. I graduated from college when Riley was 2 months old! When I think back now I don’t really see it as a big deal but I feel like it had to have been a really stressful and emotional time. It’s crazy how we forget sometimes the adversities we have faced once we are on the other side. I will forever be grateful for the people who believed in me and supported me during that walk because without them I’m not sure the outcome would have been as positive.

So if you are in a hard season right now, look for the people who are tossing you a life vest and don’t be too proud to accept it.

Last night we had the honor of celebrating Carly J

Last night we had the honor of celebrating Carly Jo at her CSiSD Hall of Fame recognition. The 60 students chosen also honor a teacher and Carly chose her kindergarten teacher Mrs. McQueen aka Cara Jo. The essay she wrote about her definitely made me tear right up but her words could not have been more true. We are both so grateful that @confidentlycara was hand picked for us all those years ago. She is one of the gems who teach from the heart and truly loves those babies from day one. I’m grateful for the love and kindness she has shown to Carly for all her years in CSISD and for the friendship we have forged as well.

One more check box on our way to graduation. It’s going fast but we are soaking it all up.

If you can’t fish with the big boys, stay on the dock 🚤
Biggest fish I’ve ever reeled in at about 34”. Don’t worry, he lived to swim another day!

I have not been fishing with Keith in forever and he ever so slyly got me into waders straight out of the gate and I decided to just go with it which was kind of a shift for me. Spoiler alert…I didn’t hate it like I always thought I would. Turns out if you are properly equipped (which Lord knows my man is) it’s actually not so bad getting in the water!

I definitely see more fishing with our empty nest in sight!

We celebrated Carly Jo last night at her NCL senio

We celebrated Carly Jo last night at her NCL senior recognition. When she was in 7th grade we joined the National Charity League and began serving alongside other mothers and daughters in our community. We have served 200+ hours between the two of us and learned how serving others truly grows your heart.

As we start crossing off all of these last little milestones, there are a few tears but also such sweet anticipation for where this girl of mine will find her place next.

We are so proud of you Carly Jo!
