Love is a Verb

February is such a great month to remember how to share love with those around us. Yesterday our church service was all about love being a verb (yep, it is!) and what a sacrifice it truly is to love others. While I’m really good at feeling love, sometimes I’m not so great at remembering to actually pour love on others.

Love shouldn’t just be something we feel it should be something we do. Love is a verb and here are 10 ways to put your love into action.

Say it! That’s right, just say I love you to those you love. When someone tells me they love me it definitely fills my heart. Our family gets an A+ in this arena and we are all comfortable saying I love you!

Send some snail mail. Pick a few friends, a special teacher, someone who serves you or a family member and send a sweet note in the actual mail. Everyone loves seeing something other than bills and the sales circular when they open the mailbox each day. Plus, reading how special someone thinks you are never gets old. Here are some darling options for a great price!

Pick up the phone! And I don’t mean to text or scroll your instagram. CALL SOMEONE today and tell them you love them! Ask them what is happening in their life and really listen.

Create some “punnies”. Even if you are not creative, Pinterest will have you covered on this one. One year (back when I had it together a little more!) I did 14 days of love for my kids and Keith and left them a snack each day with a funny little pun attached. They LOVED it. Here is a link to a printable with the ideas already laid out for you.

Deliver a meal. Seriously, if you ever want to show me love just bring an already prepared dinner I don’t have to make for myself! I might tackle you at the door I’ll be so thrilled. This can be a homecooked meal for sure, but I will give you just as big a hug over a takeout pizza! Don’t make it hard, make it thoughtful.

Random acts of kindness. Believe it or not you can show love without even receiving the credit! February 17th is actually national acts of kindness day so make a list now of some fun things you can do, gather your family and head out to do a few RAK’s together. Here are some pins I have saved to get your juices flowing!

Plan a date! We get so stuck in a rut with date nights and if we are not intentional we end up at the same old restaurant staring at the same old meal and sometimes not talking much. Take the time to be intentional and plan a date with meaning. Bonus points if you choose a date the other person will LOVE even if it’s not your thing. It sounds silly but it’s just so much more romantic to me when the date “feels” like a date. I love to bring a little questionairre along like this one, because even after 20 years sometimes we get stuck on what to talk about but always find there is something new to learn about each other.

Cuddle on the couch. For me this means putting my family first before all my other to dos. It is so hard for me to shut down my brain and my business and just chill on the couch.

Pay attention to the little things. It may seem so small but just recognizing the little things about others daily can show so much love. Compliment others or go the extra mile to thank someone. Take the time to do a task someone else is typically responsible for without being asked and without telling them you did it!

Bonus: Pray! One of the best things you can do to show love is to pray for those you love. This goes for those who are easy to love and those who are not. Believe it or not God can change hearts!

What are your favorite ways to love the people around you?
