Friday Favorites - Mothers Day

It is May y'all...May!  For any of you young ones out there I'm telling you it really is true, the older you get the faster the time passes.

I decided since it is just a week away I would share some of my very favorite Mothers Day picks!

Who doesn't like a fun gift for Mother's Day?  These gifts are all under $50 and an easy way to show mom a little love.
Gift Ideas
Reef Flip Flops - I actually purchased these when they were on sale for $20 and they are perfect for summer!  Every time I have worn them I have received compliments.  They also have a great arch support which was a plus for flip flops.
Kate Spade Stud Earrings - I love these them!  They come in several colors and Nordstrom is still price matching for under $30.
BP Reversible Vegan Tote - comes in 3 colors and under $50.
Floral Foldover - I actually found this bag in a post by Kristi at Making it in the Mountains.  I am loving the Indigo site...lots of fun stuff.  I'm definitely not opposed to purchasing my own Mother's Day gift and this is definitely a contender for $28 as is this cute little pouch or wait...maybe this one!
Mom mug - I'm a little disappointed this one sold out before I even had a chance to share!  I bought this mug for my mom for her perfect!  I've linked a similar mug that is probably appropriate for all moms.

{TWO} explanation needed.  I love flowers no matter what kind or where they are from I do not discriminate.  Love...them....all!
Mother's Day
I love fresh flowers presented in a vase or even just the bag straight from the store.  Why yes I did create this using the Word Swag app....if you haven't discovered this fun app visit my tutorial here!
Mother's Day
Or I'm just as excited about a hanging basket or potted plant.

Homemade gifts are definitely my favorites!  I have an entire box full of all the homemade things my kids have made over the years and I love going back through and seeing their handwriting or even their handprints.  Gifts directly from the heart hold more value than anything those sweeties could buy me.
Even when they draw a picture of me drinking wine as part of the school organized Mother's Day gift!  You can't tell from this picture but the entire border was little wine glasses.  Oops!

Prayers!  This is definitely something moms need all year long and it is so easy and doesn't take too much time.  If you have special friends who are moms, send a sweet note and let them know you are rooting for them and keeping them on your prayer list.  Being a mom is tough stuff.  I am often torn between wanting to be everything to everyone and feeling so overwhelmed and under appreciated.  I ran across a post on Instagram by Lysa TerKeurst on Tuesday and like so many things it happened at the perfect time after one of those mornings when I had not really been the mom I long to be.  You have the option to sign up for 5 days of mom prayers and so far it has been so good for my soul.  It is always just so reassuring to know I'm not alone in the way I'm feeling.  Here is the original blogpost from last May.  If you struggle with feeling like you are not quite hitting the mark when it comes to being a mom even though you are trying so very hard, I would totally encourage you to sign up.  If you need prayers please feel free to comment and I will be happy to add you to my prayer list as well.  We all can use extra prayers in this momma life.

The last thing on my list would be some time for me.  Bonus if that time comes with a gift certificate for a pedicure or a massage that would definitely help me relax a little.  Some quiet time to do some reading and reflecting or a great dinner that you don't have to plan or prepare are also a super treat.
I'm hoping I will have a chance for a pedicure with my new favorite OPI polish in Mod About You!

I've talked a little before about expectations and I spent so much of my life being disappointed after waiting and anticipating something special that was never to be.  If you want a special day it is up to you to create it!

If your mom loves accessories be sure to check out my {Favorite Things} post from earlier this week!

Happy Friday friends.  I hope you have a super weekend full of love and fun!

What's Up Wednesday {April}

Mel, Sheaffer & Shay are hosting a fun new monthly linkup on the last Wednesday each month and I decided this one is too much fun to pass up!

What We're Eating This Week.....

We have a school spirit night this week and a celebration for Dillon so we will actually have two nights dining out.  One of my go to meals {Balsamic Pork Tenderloin} made it into the crockpot on Tuesday and we roasted asparagus and red potatoes to go along with it.  I'm sure we will make more veggies and have leftovers another night this week.

What I'm Reminiscing About.....

My Bigs when they were young.  I guess because they are both so grown up all of a sudden and I don't see them as often but I've been thinking a lot about the time we spent together when they were younger.  Times were a little slower, my pocket book was a lot emptier but sometimes I think living in that little 1300 square foot duplex and eating corn dogs and mac & cheese gave us a lot more time to just be together.

What I'm Loving.....

Spring!  I have loved pulling out new clothes and seeing the grass and trees turn green and all the flowers begin to bloom.

What We've Been Up To.....

We have pretty much been ruled by TCU baseball, Dillon's tourney baseball and 7 on 7 football and Carly's dance and girl scouts.  April has been full of activities!

What I'm Dreading.....

Ridiculous I know, but I am leaving Dutch Buddy at the kennel over night for the very first time this weekend and I have to say I am a little nervous about that.  This little scamp has worked his way into our family so quickly and so perfectly!

What I'm Working On.....

May calendar and goals!  It will be another busy month of activities plus we will begin our annual budget process at work so staying on top of everything will be a requirement for survival.

What I'm Excited About.....

Girls night out!  I met several friends when we were pregnant with our now 13 year olds in a water aerobics class.   We have since added a few here and there because, hey, the more the merrier.  Getting together has gotten a little easier again with the kids becoming more independent but it is still not as frequent as we would like.

What I'm Watching/Reading.....

I finished reading The Girl on the Train this past weekend and oh my goodness it is a must read!  It was so good and I could not put it down.

What I'm Listening To.....

I've been on a little bit of a country kick based on my recently downloaded music...watching the CMA's maybe?
Like a Wrecking Ball.....Eric Church
Little Red Wagon.....Miranda Lambert
A Guy Walks Into a Bar.....Tyler Farr
Say You Do.....Dierks Bentley
Wild Child.....Kenny Chesney
Going Out Like That.....Reba McEntire
Homegrown.....Zac Brown Band

And most listened to:
Smoke.....A Thousand Horses

I love how music can evoke so much emotion!

What I'm Wearing.....

Maxi skirts and dresses have been my favorite lately.  It's been warm enough, I can wear them to work and layer with a jacket or cardigan and I don't have to worry that my legs aren't quite summer ready!  Exhibit A
Loving floral patterns and patterned shorts too!
Exhibit B

What I'm Doing This Weekend.....

Headed to Round Rock....yep...more baseball!  I'm excited to watch Dillon play as most of his tourneys have been rained out.  It looks like it will be a beautiful weekend so I'm hoping to get in a little time with Carly out by the pool and do a little shopping.  The Austin area is always great for dining out too.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month.....

Believe it or not....more baseball!  I will make the trip to Tulsa, OK for the Big 12 baseball tourney at the end of May and then on to college baseball playoffs.  Every single weekend in May is full of college baseball with some of Dillon's baseball mixed in.  Good thing I love this sport!
I'm also looking forward to the end of school.  Lazy summer evenings and free weekends sound like a plan.

What Else is New.....

My sweet nephew Myles turned 4 on Sunday and this picture popped up on my Timehop app this morning.  Leave it to me to be about the last one to know about this fun App!  I seriously can hardly wait to open it everyday to see what treasure may be waiting for me!

Hop on over and visit my friend Holly's blog for her Waiting on Wednesday link up!
While I'm Waiting...

Happy Hump Day!  Hope you are having a super week.

WIWW - Maxi Skirt

The weather has warmed up in Texas and maxi skirts and dresses have been a favorite for a more casual day at the office.  I love this maxi I purchased several years back as it is lined to the knee but sadly for you it is no longer available.
Maxi Skirt
My office can be on the cool side so I normally pair a blue jean jacket or a cardigan but I pulled this denim shirt from the hanger and decided it was going to make a statement with this outfit today.
I'm also loving this Halogen relaxed club knit tee  It isn't so big that it has no shape but it is big enough it does not cling to those places I do not want it to cling {hello love handles}.  It comes it quite a few colors that are fun for spring as well as some striped options.
I added the Sanibel Pendant along with the Serenity Stone Drop Earrings in aqua even though these two don't technically match they definitely work together.  If you missed my Favorite Things - Accessories post from earlier this week you can find it here.
Maxi's are comfortable to me and I can still do many of the busy things I need to do at home while still looking pulled together for the office.
Some fun on my lunch hour blowing bubbles for Dutch!  This is one of his very favorite things to do and he could go for an hour.
I am 5'7" but even with maxi's I often have to wear a heel to keep it from dragging the ground.  I'm really thinking these Toms wedges would be perfect.  I have several other maxi skirts that have a waistband which can fold over to take away a little length for wearing with flats.

What is your go to casual workday outfit?  Are maxi skirts in your closet?

Favorite Things - Accessories

Today I'm joining Erika and Andrea for a Favorite Things Party highlighting accessories!
Walking into a store full of accessories can literally give me a panic attack.  I love to add something special to my outfits but choosing something is not really my cup of tea.  Here are a few things I've picked up the past couple of years that have made the process a little more effortless.  I wore silver exclusively for years but the past two years I have been drawn to gold over and over again.

The Rebel Pendant

I love the Rebel Pendant from Stella & Dot.  It is a lot pricier than what I would normally purchase for costume jewelry but I have more than gotten my money's worth.  It is such an easy piece to throw on to dress up an otherwise boring outfit.  I wear mine at least once a week if not more and it is actually available in silver too.

The Sanibel Pendant

The Sanibel Pendant is probably my second top worn necklace and the one I grab when needing silver and a pop of color.  It is reversible so the blue stone is one option and the flip side is dark grey stone.

Kendra Scott Earrings

What did we actually do before Kendra came along?  I actually need to add some color to my Kendra Scott collection but the Slate/Cats Eye color were the first pair I purchased.  This picture does not do them justice.  This pair of earrings goes with everything.  If I can't decide what earrings to wear I pick these every single time.

Kate Spade Studs

I have not worn stud earrings in years but when I found these last summer I had a renewed interest.  These add a fun pop of color but keep things casual.  I'm not sure how I have managed not to add the purple yet.

 Crossbody Bag

If you have been around here at all then you know ho much I love this cross body bag!  For $28 it has been a winner this spring and each time I've carried it I have received compliments.  It is a little larger than my other crossbodies and has been perfect for carrying all the things I need for a day out without all the bulk.

Tiffany Key

Gift Ideas
If you are looking for a special gift for Mother's day or for a special friends birthday, my friends gave me this necklace for my 40th birthday.  It is from Tiffany's and it will always be one of my favorite things to wear.  My friend Holly even found the perfect poem on the Keys to Friendship to give along with it.  Gifts with intention are her specialty!  Who doesn't want something from Tiffanys...just seeing that little blue box is exciting!  You might just make someone cry...but then they will be smiling really big!

Jewelry Display

Having my necklaces where I can easily see them and grab quickly has been a huge plus.  I saw this option on Pinterest at some point and it has worked well for me.
I picked up this little stand at Hobby Lobby and it has worked well to display my earrings for a quick grab and go.

You can also find me joining in the fun with the girls at Tuesday Talk and with Laura for Confident icons to join the fun.

The Queen's Chronicles - Week 17

Closing out week 17.....lots of smiles and celebrations and very thankful to say goodbye to whatever was in the air wreaking havoc on my sinuses!

 Day #110
Carly's girl scout troop held their meeting this week at Painting with a Twist.  The chosen picture was one she had already painted so she decided to try something new and was super proud of herself.
STAARS test this week so it was homemade waffles for my Littles.
Day #112
Wednesday my allergies hit me like a ton of bricks and all I wanted when I got home was a cup of tea and my blardigan.
Day #113
This guy kept me company as I stayed in bed most of the day feeling blah.  I really have fallen completely in love with this dude.
Day #114
We celebrated the end of STAARS with a pizza party for Carly Jo's class.
And then me and the girls headed to Fort Worth for the TCU vs Texas series.  After a little layover on our way due to a bad storm we made it to Fort Worth just after the game was cancelled and settled in after a quick bite to eat.  And y'all...this is my life....always have stuff stuck in my teeth and no one EVER tells me!!!
Day #115
I forgot a razor so Carly and I made a quick trip to Albertson's and decided to pick up some flowers to hand out to the housekeeping staff at our hotel.  This little miss loves spreading some sunshine!
It was a double header baseball day and Riley pitched in game one so I took a little break with these two pretty girls in the parking lot for a little tailgating.  Riley's girlfriend turned 21 on Saturday so we had an extra reason to celebrate!
Last day in Fort Worth and we were all excited the Frogs swept the Longhorns!  I'm super proud of this kid.
And this beautiful girl....these two have definitely surpassed all my expectations.  They are pretty darn cute too.
And this girl thinks her big brother hung the moon!
Riley did not get his height from his grandmothers...we are so happy they are both still so spry and able to make it to see him play so often.
And this girl....sacrificing her birthday weekend to support Riley!

We definitely have a little busyness again this week but looking forward to it!
